The NCAA has announced that University of Minnesota senior forward Bobbi Ross has been voted to compete at the third annual Frozen Four Skills Challenge, held on April 11 at the Pepsi Center in Denver. Ross, hailing from Verwood, Sask., is one of four women from the WCHA to compete in the event. The Frozen Four Skills Challenge will begin at 7 p.m. (MT) and will be preceded by the Hobey Baker Memorial Award at 5:30 p.m. and the Hockey Humanitarian Award at 6:05 p.m. The Frozen Four Skills Challenge and the Hobey Baker Award will both be shown live on ESPNU.

The competition will be conducted in an East versus West format with each team having six male position players, six female position players, two male goaltenders and two female goaltenders. To be eligible, all players must have exhausted their collegiate eligibility and be nominated by their head coach. The players were selected by representatives from the American Hockey Coaches Association, the NCAA Division I Men’s Ice Hockey Committee and NCAA national office staff. The competitions will include puck control relay, fastest skater, hardest shot, rapid fire shooting, accuracy shooting and penalty shot. Each competitor will receive a complete set of equipment and a full uniform from Nike Bauer Hockey.

Along with Ross, the West roster also includes Ohio State's Tessa Bonhomme, Minnesota Duluth's Karine Demeule, St. Cloud State's Laura Fast and Minnesota State goalie Britni Kehler. On the men's WCHA side is Colorado College's Jimmy Kilpatrick and Denver's Andrew Thomas and Peter Mannino.

Ross ranked third on the Golden Gophers' team with 20 goals and 21 assists for 41 points. In her senior season, the three-year captain has scored seven power-play goals, three short-handed goals and four game-winners. In her career, Ross ranks eighth in the Gopher record books with 75 goals and 77 assists for 152 points. A third-team All-WCHA selection in 2007 and in 2008, Ross was also named the 2005 WCHA Rookie of the Year when she posted 33 points as a freshman.
