Magdalena Wiecha, a national champion tennis player in Poland has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend the University of Minnesota next fall and join the Gophers’ women’s tennis program.

Wiecha, a Brzesko, Poland native, was an under-20 national tournament champion in Poland and also won eight Polish championship medals. She is currently ranked 16th among all women’s players in Poland.

“Magdalena completes a recruiting class that promises to be phenomenal,” said Gophers’ coach Tyler Thomson, who inked Minnesota state champion Nitooli Wilkins in the fall. “Both of these young women love tennis, love training and figure to be major components of our starting lineup as true freshmen. They can’t wait to contribute to the team and compete for the University of Minnesota.

The Gophers are currently 13-9 overall and 2-6 in the Big Ten entering their final weekend of league play at Illinois and Purdue. The Big Ten championships are set for April 24-27 at Purdue.
