Minnesota Practices Under Blue Skies Tuesday

It took nine practices for the Minnesota football team to get a taste of the great outdoors, but the Golden Gophers finally were able to workout under beautiful blue skies Tuesday afternoon at the Gibson-Nagurski football complex.

With temperatures reaching into the 60s, the Gophers drilled for over two hours in all facets of the game. The change of venue appeared to agree with Minnesota and afterward head coach Tim Brewster said was pleased with what the team accomplished.

“It was exciting to be outside today,” said Brewster. “We’ve spent a lot of time inside during the winter conditioning program and through the first part of spring practice so far. But it was a beautiful day in Minnesota today and we got a lot of good work done.”

After a grueling 112-play scrimmage on Friday, the Gophers enjoyed a well deserved rest over the weekend. The Minnesota coaching staff, however, kept the pedal to the medal when the team returned to work Tuesday afternoon and the Gophers responded with another crisp practice in full pads.

“It was another very physical practice and we spent a lot of time tackling,” Brewster said. “Our tempo was very good and we finished with another goal line drill that I thought was excellent. I think we’re taking the proper steps to be an improved team.”

Minnesota will begin a stretch of three practices in three days starting on Thursday afternoon with the 10th workout of the spring. The Gophers will also practice Friday afternoon before holding their second spring scrimmage on Saturday. All on-campus workouts are closed to the public.
