Minnesota Wins Distance Medley Relay at Kansas Relays

The Golden Gopher distance medley relay of Nikki Swenson, Jamie Dittmar, Challis Larson and Gabriele Anderson captured the title at the Kansas Relays on Friday. The Minnesota contingent clocked a time of 12 minutes, 4.15 seconds.
Ruby Radocaj led the individual performances for the Gophers. Radocaj placed second in the javelin with a throw of 168 feet, 5 inches.
Gopher high jumpers Caitlin Roemhildt and Natalie Devine both cleared 5-7. Roemhildt finished third and Devine fifth as the number of missed attempts serving as the tiebreaker.
While most track events contested preliminary races on Friday, the 3,000-meter steeplechase ran its final. Megan Duwell placed third in her first steeplechase race of the season with a time of 11:18.36. Dani Ashford was 12th with a time of 11:54.76.
Liz Podominick added a sixth-place showing in the shot put with a toss of 48-10 3/4.
In preliminary rounds, Ekene Obi and a pair of relays advanced to Saturday’s final. Obi posted a time of 1:03.38 to finish second in her preliminary heat of the 400-meter hurdles. The 4x100-meter relay of Katie Grundman, Nicole Carroll, Dawn Solberg and Chioma Omeoga ran a time of 47.94 to advance in the 4x100 meters, while Obi, Rikita Butler, Julie Schwenger and Heather Dorniden ran a prelim-best time of 3:51.71.
The Kansas Relays conclude on Saturday.
