Spring Game Countdown Continues with Practice 13

With just three days remaining before Minnesota’s 2008 spring game, the Golden Gophers returned to the practices field Tuesday afternoon for their 13th workout of the spring.

It was the first practice since the Gophers’ 86-play scrimmage on Saturday and the Minnesota coaching staff continued to push the team to its limits.

The practice was typical of Minnesota’s physical spring. The Gophers drilled for over two hours in full pads with plenty of 11-on-11 action over the last half of the practice, including work in the 2-minute drill.

Afterward, head coach Tim Brewster said that the he has been extremely pleased with the Gophers work so far this spring but that today’s practice didn’t quite meet his expectations.

“Today wasn’t quite as good,” Brewster said. “It was the second practice this spring where I didn’t think we had quite as much energy; we didn’t have quite the focus and I made sure they understood right where we were at. I had a higher level of expectation for the practice today than what we achieved. We’ve had a very long, hard, physical spring. But that’s no excuse for us not coming out today with attention to detail, focus and energy.

Minnesota will hold its final practice prior to Friday night’s spring game on Thursday afternoon. The Gophers are expected to work on fine tuning a number of areas in advance of the spring game, which kicks off at 7 p.m. inside the Metrodome.

Admission to the spring game is free for all fans. An autograph session with all players and coaches will be held on the field following the game.
