With nine sports that qualified teams or athletes for NCAA tournament competition this winter, Minnesota has vaulted to 13th place in the latest Director’s Cup standings by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics.

The Golden Gophers have a total of 581 points through the end of the winter season, earning 436 points from their winter sports success. Minnesota was in 39th place through the end of the fall season with 145 points.

The Director’s Cup measures the nation’s top overall athletics program and awards points based on NCAA tournament participation. The award is in its 15th year and is sponsored by the United States Sports Academy.

The Golden Gophers made NCAA postseason team appearances in women’s basketball, men’s and women’s hockey and men’s and women’s gymnastics. Minnesota also placed 10th nationally in wrestling, 11th in men’s swimming and diving, 13th in women’s swimming and diving and 15th in women’s indoor track and field.
