The University of Minnesota kicked off its state-wide tour of all 87 Minnesota counties Tuesday afternoon in Ramsey County.

Golden Gopher head football coach Tim Brewster was on hand to kick off the tour, which held its first event at the Ford Parkway Dairy Queen in St. Paul. In addition to Coach Brewster, Goldy, the cheerleaders and the Gopher Wagon were all on hand to promote TCF Bank Stadium and phase three of the fund-raising effort for the new facility.

Minnesota Athletics will make an appearance promoting the stadium in each Minnesota county before TCF Bank Stadium opens in the Fall of 2009.

The tour’s next two stops both take place on June 16. More than 15 members of the Gopher athletic department -- including men’s basketball coach Tubby Smith and director of athletics Joel Maturi -- will take part in a golf outing in Rochester (Olmsted County) at the Somerby Golf Community. Later that afternoon, the Gopher Wagon makes a stop in Dodge Center (Dodge County) at the Dairy Queen.

For more information on the state-wide tour or giving to the stadium fund-raising effort, contact the Golden Gopher Fund at 612-626-GOLD, e-mail ggf@umn.edu or log on to www.gophersports.com.

TCF Bank Stadium will host its first contest on Sept. 12, 2009 when the Gophers face off with the U.S. Air Force Academy.
