Former University of Minnesota football players Ron Johnson and Karon Riley are just one victory away from ArenaBowl XXII. Johnson and Riley both play for the Cleveland Gladiators, who have advanced to the National Conference Championship in the Arena Football League Playoffs. With a win over the Philadelphia Soul on Saturday, the Gladiators would advance to ArenaBowl XXII.
Cleveland is the No. 4 seed in the National Conference, while Philadelphia is the top seed. Saturday’s game will be televised live on ESPN and is slated for a Noon (CDT) kickoff. Cleveland upset the Georgia Force 73-70 Monday to advance to the conference title tilt.
Riley started at middle linebacker for the Gladiators in the victory over Georgia, recording four tackles, including a tackle-for-loss. He is in his second season with the Gladiators. Riley has recorded 42.5 tackles this season and is second on the team with 5.5 sacks.
Johnson, listed as both a wide receiver and linebacker, ranks third on the Gladiators’ squad this season with 999 receiving yards. He ranks fourth on the team in touchdowns with 11.
Virgin Mobile ArenaBowl XXII will be played Sunday, July 27 in New Orleans Arena. The game will begin at 3 p.m. and will be televised on ABC and ABC HD.
