Five Gophers Named to United States Under-22 Roster

The University of Minnesota women’s hockey team leads the pack with five members on the United States Under-22 team roster, announced today by USA Hockey. Earning a spot on the team is Gigi Marvin and Emily West, along with incoming freshmen Jocelyne Lamoureux, Monique Lamoureux and Anne Schleper.

The U.S. Under-22 Team will participate in the USA Hockey Women’s National Festival in Lake Placid starting August 12. The team will then play in a three-game series against Canada’s Under-22 Team in Pierrefonds, Que., August 20-23. Following Minnesota’s five, Wisconsin and Boston College each had three named to the Under-22 Team. Ohio State’s Jackie Barto will coach the team against Canada.

Last year, Marvin became the Gophers’ first Patty Kazmaier finalist since the 2004-05 season and the first All-American since their NCAA championship season. In 38 games played, the Warroad, Minn., native led the Gophers with 54 points during her junior campaign. She averaged 1.42 points per game, which was eighth in the nation. Named a first-team All-WCHA selection, Marvin ranked second in the WCHA in scoring (38 points), was named to the WCHA All-Tournament Team and was also a WCHA Scholar Athlete. In April, Marvin helped Team USA to a gold medal with a win over Canada.

West is making her first trek to international play after finishing a stellar season with the Gophers last year. In 34 games, the rookie tallied 24 points and had seven multiple-point games for the Maroon and Gold. Hailing from Colorado Springs, Colo., West led the team with the best plus/minus rating with a +20. After suffering a knee injury in January, West came back and held an impressive mark of +13 in the final 15 games of the season. In playoff action alone, West scored two goals and four assists for six points in four games.

Jocelyne Lamoureux finished her senior season at Shattuck St. Mary’s with 47 goals and 65 assists for 107 points. She finished her career with 477 points, producing 102 as a freshman, 137 as a sophomore and 131 in her junior campaign. Monique Lamoureux, who also finished her senior season at Shattuck St. Mary’s netted 82 goals and 52 assists for 134 points in just 54 games played last year. She tallied 113 points as a rookie, 116 as a sophomore and 135 her junior year. Natives of Grand Forks, N.D., both Lamoureuxs have seen action on the international scene as they were the youngest members of the U.S. 2006 Four Nation’s Cup team. Schleper was a member of the U.S. Under-18 team that earned a gold medal over Canada last season. From St. Cloud, Minn., Schleper closed out her high school career with the St. Cloud Icebreakers with 26 goals and 19 assists. During her high school years, she tallied 178 points as a defenseman.
