Golden Gopher fans in the Big Ten region who receive cable service from Charter Communications will soon have access to the Big Ten Network.
According to a statement jointly released by the two companies Wednesday, the Big Ten Network has reached a multi-year distribution agreement with Charter Communications in which Charter will carry the Big Ten Network and related programming on its expanded basic level of service.
Charter is the second-largest cable provider in Minnesota with approximately 300,000 subscribers. The company also provides cable service in Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio and Illinois.
The deal with Charter marks the third major agreement reached this month by the BTN, which also recently announced deals with US Cable and Time Warner (no longer in Minnesota). Earlier this month, Comcast, Minnesota’s largest cable operator, began carrying the network as part of its basic cable lineup.
The Minnesota football program opens its 2008 season on the Big Ten Network Saturday night vs. Northern Illinois at 6 p.m. (CT).
