Golden Gopher Women's Basketball 3-0 on Italian Tour

The Minnesota women’s basketball team closed their Italian tour with a 108-18 victory over a team from Bellinzona, Switzerland on Tuesday. Minnesota finished with a 3-0 record on their Italy trip. Zoe Harper led the Golden Gophers with 24 points, while Katie Ohm chipped in 23.
The Gophers took a 20-6 lead after the first quarter. Emily Fox drew turned some heads with her patented spin moves for a lay-up midway through the quarter. Harper made her presence known on the block with nine early points.
Minnesota extended its lead to 50-12 in the second quarter. Tanisha Smith ignited a top play with a steal, tipping the ball to Fox, who averted the defense with a behind-the-back dribble at halftime and found Brittany McCoy trialing the play for an easy lay-up. Kay Sylva stole and inbounds pass and collected on the assist when Fox dashed in for a lay-up for another top play in the period.
The Gopher defense held the Bellinzona team to just one field goal in the third stanza and that coming with just 14 seconds left in the quarter. Fox tallied assists on three of the first four plays of the period and Ohm hit three of her five three-point field goals in the third quarter. Harper brought the Gopher bench to its feet midway through the period, once again stealing a pass and for the second time on the trip sprinting coast-to-coast for a lay-up. Minnesota held an 80-14 advantage after the third quarter.
With a huge lead in head, the Gophers continued its high level of play in the fourth quarter, outscoring Bellinzona by a 28-4 margin. Harper continued to dominate inside and added eight points in the quarter to her game-high tally.
Harper and Ohm paced the Gophers offensively, but were joined by four other players in double-figure scoring. McCoy enjoyed her best game of the Italy tour and contributed 14 points. Ellis-Milan added 12, while Sylva and Smith finished with 11 points apiece.
The Gophers placed the game in Bellinzona, Switzerlan and returned to Lake Como, Italy after the game. The team will return to Minnesota on Thursday afternoon.
