Minnesota Volleyball Olympians Day One

Both Lindsey Berg and Nicole Branagh were in action in the Olympics at Beijing on Saturday, Aug. 9.

Branagh and her teammate Elaine Youngs won their first preliminary match over Jonas Personeni and Geir Dahle of the Netherlands by scores of 21-19 and 27-25 in beach volleyball, while Berg and the United States Indoor Volleyball Team defeated Japan 3-1 by scores of 25-20, 20-25, 25-19, 25-21 in their first match of group play.

Berg helped the U.S. Team take control of the match in a crucial stretch during the third game. With the match tied at 1-1 and the game tied at 19, Berg came into the game, set out of the backrow and served the final six points of the game to help put the U.S. team ahead 2-1 in the match.
