Minnesota Volleyball Hosts Diet Coke Classic

The Minnesota volleyball team will host the Diet Coke Classic on Sept. 12-14. Minnesota will welcome No. 4 California, No. 16 Cal Poly and Notre Dame to the Sports Pavilion for the three-day tournament.
On the first day of the tournament, Notre Dame will face Cal Poly on Friday, Sept. 12 at 5 p.m. Minnesota will play its first match of the Diet Coke Classic against No. 4 California at 7:30 p.m. The Golden Gophers match against California will be shown live on the Gold Zone.
The Golden Bears will face the Fighting Irish in the first match of the day on Saturday, Sept 13 at 5 p.m. Minnesota will take on the 16th-ranked Mustangs at 7:30 p.m.
On the final day of the Diet Coke Classic (Sept. 14), California and Cal Poly will face each other at 12 p.m. Minnesota will wrap up the tournament against Notre Dame at 2:30 pm. The Golden Gophers’ match against the Fighting Irish will broadcast live on the Big Ten Network.

Minnesota enters the week with a 5-1 record, after going 2-1 in the Honolulu Advertiser Classic last week. In that tournament, the Golden Gophers defeated Cincinnati (3-0), Wyoming (3-0) and lost to No. 11 Hawai’i (2-3).
California is 5-0 after defeating James Madison (3-0), DePaul (3-0) and UC-Riverside (3-0) last week. The Golden Bears have not dropped a set this year.
Cal Poly is 4-2 after losing to No. 2 Nebraska (0-3), and defeating Tulane (3-0) and Northeastern (3-0). Notre Dame is 3-3, after the Fighting Irish defeated Washington State (3-0), and lost to Eastern Washington (1-3) and Idaho (0-3).
Minnesota is led by Brook Dieter (Bloomington, Minn.) who is averaging 3.22 kps, 1.94 dps and 0.83 blps. Sophomore Lauren Gibbemeyer (St. Paul, Minn.) is averaging 2.71 kps and 1.29 blps, while hitting .349 this season. Kyla Roehrig (Papillion, Neb.) also has 2.70 kps and 0.85 blps. Setter Rachel Hartmann (St. Charles, Ill.) is averaging 10.24 aps, 1.76 dps and 0.81 blps, while Christina Tan (Safety Harbor, Fla.) leads the team with 5.19 dps.
The Golden Gophers are outhitting their opponents .279 to .133, and outblocking them 2.95-to-0.95 blps.
