The Big Ten Conference announced Monday that Minnesota defender Jennie Clark was named Big Ten Co-Defensive Player of the Week following her Regina Moench Memorial Tournament Defensive MVP performance this weekend. Clark shares the honor with Michigan State goalkeeper Lindsey Wrege, who recorded consecutive shutouts over the weekend.

Clark (Norwalk, Iowa) collected the accolade after spearheading a defensive effort that limited Ohio and Creighton to just seven combined shots over the weekend. Minnesota defeated Ohio by a 2-0 score on Friday before clinching the Regina Moench Memorial Tournament title with a 3-0 win Sunday over 2007 NCAA Tournament participant Creighton.

Assigned to contain Marcy Gans, Creighton’s leading scorer and reigning Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week, Clark and her defensive teammates held Gans without a shot in Minnesota’s win Sunday.

Clark contributed on the offensive end for the Gophers on Sunday as well, netting her first career goal in the 85th minute. The sophomore was assisted by Julie Rezac and fellow defender Krystle Kallman.

The Gophers (6-0-0), off to the best start in program history, travel to Reno, Nev. this weekend where they will take on Nevada (0-4-1) in a Friday night match before playing Idaho (1-3-0) in a Sunday afternoon tilt.
