Tubby Smith moved to 35-15 as the head coach of Minnesota, and 422-160 for his career.
Smith is 3-1 against Penn State with today's victory.

Smith is now 25-7 at Williams Arena for a .774 winning percentage.

Minnesota leads the series 16-3 and has now defeated the Nittany Lions eight straight times .

Minnesota is off to a 15-1 start this year. The last time the Golden Gophers started 15-1 was in the 1976-77 season when Minnesota opened the year at 16-1.

The Gophers shot a school-record 9-for-9 from three-point land. The 1.000 three-point shooting night is a new school record. The previous record (with a minimum of eight three-pointers attempted) came on Jan. 3, 2007 when Minnesota was 8-for-10 against Purdue.

Minnesota shot a season-high 62.5 percent (30-for-48) for the game.

The Gophers bench outscored Penn State's 47 to 15 in the game. Minnesota's bench was 18-for-22 from the field for a .818 shooting percentage.

Minnesota's five newcomers combined for 48 points, 14 rebounds, nine assists and went 17-for-24 from the field on the day.


Individual Player Notes:

Devron Bostick scored a career-high 19 points and had a career-high seven field goals made.

Bostick has scored in double-figures three times this season

Bostick also shot 7-for-8 from the field and was 2-for-2 from the three-point land in the game.

Paul Carter had a career-high 14 points for the Golden Gophers on 5-for-6 shooting for the game.

Tonight was Carter's first double-figure scoring performance of the season

Ralph Sampson III had 10 points and three blocks on the night for Minnesota.

Sampson has now scored in double-figures five times this year. Today was his first double-figure scoring performance in Big Ten play.

Sampson had three blocks in the game as well. It is the fourth time this year he has had three or more blocks in a game.

Sampson tied a career-high in free-throws made and attempted going 4-for-4 on the game. He was also 4-for-4 against South Dakota State on Dec. 10, 2008.

Lawrence Westbrook had 13 points today to mark the 13th time in 15 games this year he has scored in double figures. It was also the sixth game in a row he has scored in double-figures and the 43rd time in his career. Westbrook has reached double-figure scoring in all four Big Ten contests this year.

Westbrook scored the first nine points of the game.

Westbrook had his ninth game with two or more three-pointers this season.

Damian Johnson had three steals in today's game. It was the sixth time this season Johnson has had three steals or more in a game.

Devoe Joseph had a career-high five assists on the seasons.

Al Nolen had five assists in the game. It was the 11th time 16 games this year that Nolen had five or more assists in a game.

Jamal Abu-Shamala had seven points on the game, and was 3-for-3 from the field with a three-pointer.
