No. 1 Gophers Host Bemidji State This Weekend

GOPHERS RETURN TO RIDDER THIS WEEKEND
The No. 1 University of Minnesota women’s hockey team returns to the confines of its home ice, Ridder Arena, this weekend. The series marks the first time Minnesota has played on its home ice since Nov. 28-29 when then-No. 9 Harvard came to town. The Gophers play nine of their final 12 games of the regular season games at home. This weekend, Bemidji State comes to town, Jan. 23-24. Friday’s game is at 6:07 p.m., while Saturday’s tilt is at 4:07 p.m.
SINCE THE LAST HOME GAMES
Since Minnesota has last played at Ridder Arena, the Gophers have gone 6-0-0, sweeping North Dakota, Niagara and Ohio State. Gigi Marvin has led the Gophers in scoring over the past six games with 15 points, followed by Monique Lamoureux and Jen Schoullis with 14 points and Jocelyne Lamoureux and Emily West with 13. Alyssa Grogan played in three games on the road, posting a 0.80 goals against average and a .963 save percentage. Jenny Lura also played in three games and held a save percentage of .941.
ON THE DOCKET
Following the series against the Beavers, Minnesota hosts in-state rival, No. 3 and defending national champions Minnesota Duluth, Jan. 23-24. Friday’s game is at 7:07 p.m., followed by a 5:07 p.m. game the next day.
ON THE RADIO
The University of Minnesota and KLBB has announced that seven women’s hockey home games will be broadcast live on KLBB. Saturday’s game against Bemidji State (1/17), against UMD (1/24), the Wisconsin series (2/7-8), the North Dakota series (2/13/-14) and the regular season finale against St. Cloud State can all be found on KLBB 1220 AM. Post-season action has yet to be determined.

GOPHERS IN CONFERENCE ACTION
Minnesota enters the BSU series with a 14-1-1 record in the WCHA. In 16 games, Monique Lamoureux has tallied 33 points against league foes, while Jocelyne Lamoureux has 25 and Gigi Marvin has 20. Minnesota has outscored its conference opponents 80-21, including 10-0 against the Beavers earlier this year.
STEPPING IT UP
Last year, Emily West garnered 24 points, followed by Jen Schoullis with 20. Halfway through their sophomore seasons, West and Schoullis have already tied and surpassed their rookie point production. In 22 games, West has tallied 24 points, while Schoullis has 23 this year. Since the start of the second semester, Schoullis has 11 points (six goals and five assists). Defenseman Melanie Gagnon, who currently has 18 points, has already surpassed her 14 points she set as a junior last year. She had 11 as a freshman, 27 as a sophomore and 14 in 2007-08 after suffering a shoulder injury.
ABOUT THE BEAVERS
Bemidji State enters the Minnesota series with a 5-15-2 overall record and a 2-14-0 mark in the WCHA. BSU is on a four-game win streak, defeating Robert Morris (2-0, 3-1) and Minnesota State (2-1, 4-1) last weekend. Leading the Beavers in scoring is Roseville, Minn., native Erin Cody with 16 points. Also rounding out their top three scorers is Erin Johnson and Annie Bauerfeld with 11 and 10 points. Arguably the Beavers’ biggest threat is between the pipes in Slovakian National Team member Zuzana Tomcikova. In 17 games played, Tomcikova has a .934 save percentage and a has two shutouts. Minnesota has fallen to the Beavers only twice since the start of the BSU program, both coming at Ridder Arena.
