Divers Compete Against Wyoming;Young Wins Platform

The University of Minnesota men’s and women’s diving teams opened the second half of their seasons hosting the first day of the two-day diving meet against Wyoming, tonight at the University Aquatic Center.

Cole Young won the men’s platform, beating out seven competitors. Young won the event with a six-dive score of 318.30. After Wyoming’s Mark Murdock placed second overall (264.98), Alex Stern had some great dives to place third overall with a score of 252.23. Tyler Jepsen rounded out the Gopher competition when he finished seventh overall with a score of 200.93.

On the women’s side, Minnesota’s Taylor Enerson placed second with a five-dive score of 204.98 after Wyoming’s Emily Huth won the event with a score of 219.90. Emma Shankland placed fifth overall with a score of 143.03.

“Overall I was pleased with the Gopher performance today,” head diving coach Jason Baumann said. “The divers are training really hard right now and we had some nice performances on platform today. The first individual that came to mind was Alex Stern, who really stood out on the 7-meter.”

Action continues tomorrow afternoon at 4 p.m. On the women’s side, also competing is South Dakota State.
