Blog: Snowy Weather, Decker Honored
10/17/2009 12:00:00 AM | Football
The University of Minnesota football team arrived in State College, Pa. Friday afternoon to wintry weather. In other news of the day, several Gophers were honored on the Phil Steele Mid-Season All-Big Ten Team, while Eric Decker was named Midseason All-America by Steele. More information on those midseason awards can be found below.
The temperature when the Gophers touched down in central Pennsylvania was a cool 35 degrees with a light snow falling. The area had already received reports of near four inches over the course of the last 24 hours. The forecast calls for more snow overnight and a mix of rain and snow throughout the course of the day tomorrow.
It should make for an entertaining football game. To make matters even more interesting, Beaver Stadium has a natural grass playing surface. There should be plenty of mud and sloppiness throughout the contest.
Decker Named Midseason All-America
Phil Steele has released his annual Mid-Season All-Big Ten and All-America teams. Minnesota wide receiver Eric Decker has been named to Mid-Season First-Team All-America and All-Big Ten.
A number of other Gophers were also included on the All-Big Ten teams. Senior linebacker Nate Triplett was a Mid-Season First-Team All-Big Ten selection. Senior linebacker Lee Campbell was named to the Mid-Season, All-Big Ten Second Team, as was sophomore kick returner Troy Stoudermire.
Junior offensive lineman Matt Carufel, senior defensive back Marcus Sherels and senior linebacker Simoni Lawrence were all on Steele’s Mid-Season All-Big Ten Third Team.
