The Minnesota volleyball team (15-5, 6-2) is ranked No. 9 for the week of Oct. 19 in the AVCA poll. The Golden Gophers received 992 points this week in the poll.

It marks the first time that the Golden Gophers have been ranked in the top 10 for seven weeks in a row since 2005, when they were in that position from the preseason poll until Oct. 10, 2005 for the same period of time. Minnesota has also been ranked in the last 25 top 25 polls. The Golden Gophers' school record came from Oct. 20, 2003 to Sept. 4, 2006 when they were ranked in 40 straight polls.

Last week, Minnesota lost to No. 10 Illinois in three sets at Assembly Hall on Oct. 16 and defeated Northwestern in four sets on Oct. 17.

Minnesota is one of four Big Ten teams ranked in the top 25 this week. The Golden Gophers are joined by No. 1 Penn State, No. 8 Illinois and No. 11 Michigan. As a conference, the Big Ten has the most teams in the top 10 with three. The conference also has four of the top 11 teams in the nation.

The Golden Gophers will be back in action when they face Michigan State at the Sports Pavilion on Friday, Oct. 23 at 7 p.m. Minnesota will also host No. 11 Michigan at Williams Arena on Saturday, Oct. 24 at 7 p.m. That match will also be "Dig Pink" night. Both matches can be seen live on BigTenNetwork.com, and can be heard in the Gold Zone.
