Ferrazzi and Koprivica Reach ITA Round of 16

Minnesota's Alessandra Ferrazzi and Tijana Koprivica both won in singles and doubles to advance to the round of 16 in each event at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Central Region tournament on Thursday in Norman, Okla.

Ferrazzi and Koprivica each captured two singles victories and teamed for a win in doubles. Alexa Palen and Magdalena Wiecha also won in doubles to reach the round of 16. The event continues on Friday with the finals set for Sunday. The singles and doubles winners advance to the ITA National Indoor Championships Nov. 5-8 in New Haven, Conn.

Koprivica is seeded fifth in the singles field and opened with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Delia Damaschin of Wichita State. She then beat Hailee Elmore of Saint Louis 6-3, 6-3. Koprivica will face 14th seeded Nataliva Shatkovskaya of Oklahoma State in the third round.

Ferrazzi, the tournament's 11th seed, coasted to an opening-round win over Annemijn Koenen of Arkansas 6-0, 6-1. She followed with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Marta Marcinkowska of Tulsa to set up a contest with top-seeded Anouk Tigu of Arkansas on Friday.

Ferrazzi and Koprivica also teamed for an 8-1 doubles victory over Sarah Septien and Caitlin McKenna of Saint Louis.

Palen won her first singles match, rallying from one set down to beat Alexandra Kichoutkin of Tulsa 2-6, 6-1, 6-2. She won the first set in her second round match, but lost to Oklahoma's Marie-Pier Huet 5-7, 6-4, 6-1. Four of Palen's eight matches this season have gone three sets.

Wiecha defeated Jennifer Dien of Southern Illinois 7-6, 6-1 in the first round, but fell to 16th-seeded Mallory Weber of Missouri 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 in her second match.

Jackie Sperling lost in the first round of the main draw to 13th-seeded Kate Lukomskaya of Arkansas 6-3, 6-3. Peta Forsyth fell in her qualifying match on Wednesday to Septien of Saint Louis 6-3, 6-3.

Palen and Wiecha won their doubles match by beating Weber and Jamie Mera of Missouri 8-5. Sperling and Forsyth lost in doubles to Ana-Maria Constantinescu and Teona Tsertsvadze of Oklahoma 8-2.
