This is the first season since 2004 that Minnesota has been ranked in eight consecutive top 10 polls during the same year. The Golden Gophers have also been ranked in 26 of the last top 25 polls. The school record came from Oct. 20, 2003 to Sept. 4, 2006 when they were ranked in 40 straight polls.
Last week, Minnesota defeated Michigan State in five sets and claimed a four-set victory over No. 11 Michigan at Williams Arena. At the halfway mark of Big Ten play, the Golden Gophers are currently tied for second place with Illinois in the Big Ten at 8-2.
Minnesota is one of four Big Ten teams ranked in the top 25 this week. The Golden Gophers are joined by No. 1 Penn State, No. 6 Illinois and No. 13 Michigan. As a conference, the Big Ten and Big 12 have the most teams in the top 10 with three apiece.
The Golden Gophers will be back in action when they travel to No. 1 Penn State on Friday, Oct. 30 at 6 p.m. That match can be seen live on the Big Ten Network. Minnesota will also face Ohio State in a road match on Saturday, Oct. 31 at 6 p.m.
