Minnesota Ranked No. 5 in AVCA Poll

The Minnesota volleyball team (13-3, 4-0) moved up three spots to No. 5 in the AVCA Top 25 on Monday, Oct. 5. The Golden Gophers received 1,207 points in the poll.
Minnesota's No. 5 ranking was its highest since Sept. 19, 2005 when it was ranked No. 5 for a third week in a row. It also marked the first time that the Golden Gophers have been ranked in the top 10 for five weeks in a row since 2005, when they were in that position from the preseason poll until Oct. 10, 2005. Minnesota's 1,207 points were the most received since it 1,269 point on Sept. 19, 2005.
Last week, the Golden Gophers defeated Purdue and Indiana in a pair of three-set road matches. Minnesota is currently the only team in the Big Ten to have not dropped a set in the first two weeks of action. The Golden Gophers have also started out 4-0 for the third year in a row.
Minnesota is one of five Big Ten teams ranked in the top 25 this week. The Golden Gophers are joined by No. 1 Penn State, No. 8 Michigan, No. 12 Illinois and No. 18 Michigan State.
The Golden Gophers will be back in action when they face Ohio State on Friday, Oct. 9 at 6 p.m. That match can be seen live on the BigTenNetwork.com. Minnesota will also face No. 1 Penn State on Sunday, Oct. 11 at 1 p.m. in a match that can be seen live on the Big Ten Network.
