Series Notes

  • Minnesota's lead in the all-time series slipped to 59-42-2 with today's loss.
  • The Gophers' lead in the annual battle for the Floyd of Rosedale trophy also narrowed to 39-34-2. Minnesota last captured the pig in 2006 in a 34-24 win at the Metrodome.
  • Today's setback was the third in a row to Iowa and the fifth straight in Iowa City for the Gophers. Minnesota's last win at Kinnick Stadium was a 25-21 win in 1999.
  • Today's 12-0 shutout by the Hawkeyes marked the first time Minnesota has been held off the scoreboard in back to back seasons by Iowa since the 1955 and 1956 seasons. Iowa defeated the Gophers 55-0 last year.

Team Notes

  • After opening the season with wins in its first two road games, the Gophers have now dropped three in a row on the road and finished the season 2-3 away from home.
  • Minnesota lost its 14th consecutive matchup with a ranked opponent and its fourth of the season.
  • Four of Minnesota's six losses in 2009 have come against ranked opponents.
  • Minnesota's defense totaled four sacks on the day, its most since collecting the same number earlier in the season at Northwestern. Three of the sacks were by DBs [Royston, Collado (2)].
  • The Gophers' defense forced Iowa to punt a season-high nine times. Minnesota's defense also held to Iowa to a season-low 171 yards.
  • Minnesota suffered its second shutout of the season. The Gophers were also held off the scoreboard at Penn State. It is the first time a Minnesota team has been shut out twice in the same season since 1986.
