Two University of Minnesota football players have been honored as Academic All-District 5 selections by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Senior wide receiver Eric Decker and senior offensive lineman Jeff Tow-Arnett are now both eligible for Academic All-America accolades and will be on the national ballot for that distinction.
Decker is a graduate student and holds an undergraduate degree in business marketing education. He compiled a 3.41 grade-point average during his undergraduate course work. Decker started the Gophers' first seven games, before suffering a season-ending foot injury. He leads the Big Ten in receiving yards per game.
Tow-Arnett is on track to graduate this December with a degree in business marketing education. He holds a 3.79 grade-point average. Tow-Arnett started the first five games of the season at the center position, before suffering a broken leg.
In order to be nominated for CoSIDA Academic honors, a student-athlete must: hold a 3.3 grade-point average or better; be a sophomore in eligibility; have completed at least one academic year at the institution; be a starter or key contributor to the team.
