Minnesota Hosts Indiana and Purdue

The Minnesota volleyball team (17-7, 8-4) will host Indiana (14-13, 3-10) and Purdue (4-9, 12-12) this weekend. The Golden Gophers will host Indiana on Friday, Nov. 6 at 7 p.m. and Purdue on Sunday, Nov. 8 at 1 p.m.

Minnesota's match with Indiana will be streamed live on BigTenNetwork.com. The Golden Gophers' match against Purdue will be broadcast live on the Big Ten Network, and will be announced by Marney Gellner and former Ohio State Head Coach Jim Stone. Both matches can be heard live in the Gold Zone.

Entering the week, Minnesota is ranked No. 12 and has a 17-7 overall record. Minnesota is one of eight teams in the nation to have been ranked No. 13 or higher the entire season. The Golden Gophers are currently third in the Big Ten at 8-4. Penn State sits in first place at 12-0, while Illinois is second place with a 10-2 record. Michigan and Wisconsin are tied for fifth at 6-6.

Minnesota is led by Lauren Gibbemeyer who is one of two players to be ranked nationally in blocks and hitting percentage. Gibbemeyer has 3.08 kps, 1.36 blps and is hitting .410. Christine Tan leads the team in digs with 3.80 dps, and senior setter Taylor Carico has 10.10 aps, 2.38 dps and 0.86 kps.

Indiana enters the weekend with a 14-13 overall record and is 3-10 in Big Ten play. The Hoosiers lost a four-set match at home to Purdue on Nov. 4. Indiana also dropped a pair of five-set matches at home to No. 6 Illinois and Northwestern last week. The Hoosiers have lost nine of their last 10 matches after starting out 2-1 in Big Ten play.

Entering the weekend, Indiana is led by Ashley Benson who has 3.34 kps and 1.07 blps, while freshman Jordan Haverly has 3.34 kps and 2.18 dps. Caitlin Cox leads the team with 3.83 dps, and is sixth in the Big Ten. Mary Chadouin has 6.89 aps and 0.81 blps, while Whitney Granado has 5.68 aps and 1.42 dps. Minnesota won the first meeting this year at Indiana in three sets on Oct. 4.

Purdue enters the weekend with a 12-12 overall record and is 4-9 in Big Ten play. The Boilermakers defeated the Hoosiers in four sets in Bloomington on Nov. 4. Purdue lost to No. 6 Illinois in three sets, and dropped a five-set decision to Northwestern last week.

The Boilermakers are led by Carrie Gurnell who has 3.20 kps and 1.18 dps. Tiffany Fisher leads the team in blocks with 0.75 and has 2.47 kps. Freshman Ariel Turner also has 2.56 kps, while Blair Bashen leads the team with 3.45 dps. Setter Jaclyn Hart is sixth in the Big Ten in assists at 10.15. aps. Minnesota defeated Purdue in three sets at West Lafayette earlier this season on Oct. 2.
