University of Minnesota head football coach Tim Brewster has announced the signing of two junior college transfers to national letters of intent Friday. Tiree Eure (pronounced TIE-ree Yer-ee) and Christyn Lewis (pronounced like Christian) will both enroll at the University in January and joining the Gopher squad for spring practices.

"I couldn't be more pleased with the addition of Tiree and Christyn to the program," Brewster said. "It's exciting that we will have both players with us for spring practice and I expect that each will step in right away and compete strongly for playing time."

Eure comes to Minnesota from Lackawanna College in Scranton, Penn. The 6-foot 7-inch, 242-pound tight end caught 22 passes for 268 yards and two touchdowns in 2009. Eure was a first-team all-conference selection for Lackawanna. He hails from Plainfield, N.J.

"Tiree brings a lot of experience to our tight end position," Brewster said. "He runs well, catches the ball, blocks well and is very physical."

Lewis is a 6-2, 175-pound defensive back who played his freshman and sophomore seasons at Citrus College in Glendora, Calif. He was named Second-Team All-Central Conference following the 2009 season. Lewis tallied 43 tackles, three tackles for-loss, four interceptions and seven pass break-ups last season. He's also adept at blocking kicks, finishing his Citrus College career with a school record six total blocks and five blocked field goals. Lewis is a Fontana, Calif. native.

"Christyn is a smart and versatile player who tackles very well," Brewster said. "He can contribute at either corner or safety, and we will focus on him at corner."

The Minnesota football team is currently preparing for its 2009 Insight Bowl game with Iowa State. The Insight Bowl will take place Dec. 31 at Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe, Ariz. Kickoff is slated for 5 p.m. CST.
