Alicia Rue Wins Third Big Ten Weekly Award in 2009

Minnesota junior Alicia Rue was named the Big Ten Women’s Field Event Athlete of the Week on Monday, her third weekly honor of the 2009 season. Rue captured the title in the pole vault at the Iowa State Classic last weekend, clearing an NCAA automatic qualifying mark of 14 feet 1 1/4 inches. The award is Rue’s fifth of her Golden Gopher career.

Rue’s effort in the Iowa State meet was her second career vault over 14 feet. Earlier this season, Rue cleared 14-4, which still ranks as the best vault in the nation this season.
