Parkhill Named to Roster for 10 Nations Tourney

University of Minnesota goalkeeper Cat Parkhill (Apple Valley, Minn.) was one of two players from the United States’ U-20 women’s national team that won a gold medal at the 2008 U-20 Women’s World Cup in Chile to be named to the U-20 national team roster for next month’s 10 Nations Tournament in La Manga, Spain.

Parkhill, 18, will join U-20 World Cup Golden Ball and Golden Shoe winner Sydney Leroux (UCLA) as the only members of the 10 Nations Tournament squad who also were members of the gold medal team in Chile.

USA head coach Jillian Ellis projects that next month’s event will serve as an opportunity to evaluate players for another run at the U-20 World Cup title in the 2010 event held in Germany. Parkhill, who will turn 20 years of age just prior to the 2010 World Cup, is one of two goalkeepers on the roster, joining Bianca Henniger of UC-Santa Clara.

“As always, these games will be part of an evaluation process,” Ellis said. “It really gives me an opportunity to test players against some very tough international opposition. Many of them have experience at the international level, but of course this is a step up for the players who have played at the U-17 World Cup.”

Parkhill and her Minnesota teammates began spring practice earlier this month and will open their six-game spring schedule when they travel to Los Angeles next weekend to take on USC and Loyola-Marymount.
