GopherSports.com had the opportunity to speak with incoming Gopher recruit Michael Carter on the phone over the weekend. The following is a transcript of that conversation:
GopherSports.com: So, has everything sunk in yet? How excited are you to be a Golden Gopher?
Michael Carter: I’m just really excited to get up there and see the Minnesota fans. I’m really excited about coming up to the Twin Cities. I really like the fact that it is a big city and I think I’m really going to like being there.
GS.com: Can you tell us what those last few days prior to Signing Day were like?
MC: It was really rough, knowing that I had committed to West Virginia, but feeling like there something that wasn’t there. That something was missing was at Minnesota. That day (Signing Day) when I woke up, I just knew I wanted to be a Gopher.
GS.com: Is there something that really put you over the top on your decision to sign with Minnesota?
MC: Mostly the coaches. They are just really cool people. The coaches up there have been there for me from the beginning.
GS.com: What about joining the Gophers has you the most excited?
MC: Just getting on the field. I can’t wait to get up there and just get going.
GS.com: What are your thoughts about TCF Bank Stadium and being the first class to play your entire career there?
MC: The new stadium is going to be great. It will be outstanding. With it being outdoors, there will be some days when it is a little cold, but I’m very excited about playing there. The field will be brand new. The locker room is amazing. The whole experience is going to be very cool.
GS.com: You saw a game at the Metrodome on your official visit. What do you think the atmosphere will be like at TCF Bank Stadium:
MC: I know the atmosphere is going to be really great. There will be a lot of people coming to the games next year just with the new stadium. Plus, if you look at the promise the team showed lat year when they jumped off at 7-1. I think a lot of people will be coming to see us play next year.
GS.com: What have you been up to since Signing Day?
MC: I’ve been working out a lot. I took about a week off, just to get away from the stress of the whole Signing Day thing. But I’ve got a workout plan going. I’m just trying to get bigger, stronger and faster right now.
GS.com: How’s that going?
MC: It’s going well. I can see some more strength. Right now, I’m able to start putting more weight on and I’m repping more with more weight.
GS.com: Do you have anything you want to say to Gopher fans?
MC: I’m just getting ready to come up there. I want to really contribute in my first year and help the Gophers take home a Big Ten Championship.
