Former Gopher Jack Brewer has been busy receiving honors and attention for his work in the African community recently.
On Thursday, United States Congressman Charles B. Rangel of New York’s 15th District, presented The Jack Brewer Foundation with a Congressional Certificate in appreciation for the foundation’s work in Malawi.
Congressman Rangel presented the certificate to JBF Worldwide during the 2nd Annual Eli Klein Fine Art Winter Fundraiser hosted by Dallas Cowboys Running Back Marion Barber and JBF Worldwide. The fundraiser will benefit children and families in Malawi, Africa.
The Jack Brewer Foundation was founded by former Gopher and NFL player Jack Brewer in April 2006, and is an organization of many initiatives, including a notable microfinance fund benefiting families in Malawi.
With 1.2 million orphans in Malawi, JBF Worldwide is committed to developing initiatives that focus on creating self-sustaining development. Proceeds from the initiative enable families to obtain the resources needed to grow and harvest food within their communities.
“Receiving the Congressional Certificate is an amazing honor, and I’m happy to be able to share this moment with Marion Barber, another active steward to charity work,” Brewer said. “I’ve always said that it is up to all of us as individuals to go beyond even our own ambitions to truly improve mankind, and I’m proud of my foundation and our efforts to do just that.”
On the heels of Thursday’s event, Brewer will be ringing the closing bell at the New York Stock Exchange Friday afternoon.
This is just the latest nod of appreciation to Brewer and his Jack Brewer Foundation. Brewer will be acommpanied at the bell-ringing ceremony by numerous supporters of the foundation, including Congressman Rangel, Barber and former Minnesota volleyball player Lindsey Berg, who has represented the United States at the Olympics and plays professionally overseas.
"This is a huge opportunity for JBF to gain exposure as a strong, solid non-profit organization,” Brewer said. “I am thrilled to have my colleagues and former teammates beside me at the prestigious opportunity to ring the closing bell at the NYSE on Friday."
The NYSE closing bell will be rung by Jack Brewer and the Jack Brewer Foundation Friday, February 27 at 4 p.m. ET.
