Minnesota's first spring football practice is two weeks away (as of this writing) and there are a few news items out there that Gopher fans may be interested to read.
Minnesota wide receiver Eric Decker is currently being featured on http://www.collegefootballnews.com/ as one of the website's 120 Players to Know for the 2009 season. Here's a link to the Decker article. It is a really nice piece about Eric and really paints a pretty complete (and very positive) picture of the Cold Spring native.
While the Gophers are getting ready to start spring practice, Decker's spring has already gotten off to a strong start. The two-sport star is playing well for the Minnesota baseball team, which has opened the 2009 campaign with an 8-3 record. Decker is currently the team's leading hitter with a .439 batting average. He ranks No. 2 on the team with five stolen bases and has one of the Gophers' seven home runs. Here's a link to Minnesota's baseball statistics.
There is non-football news about a future Gopher football player as well. Fergus Falls product Josh Campion recently had a very nice run through the Minnesota State High School League Class AA Wrestling Tournament. Campion finished as the state runner-up at 285 pounds (heavyweight). He wrapped up his senior season with a 36-4 record. Here's a link to the state wrestling tournament results.
As we mentioned at the beginning of this post, spring practice is just two weeks away. Spring practices will conclude with an outdoor spring game, April 25 at the University of St. Thomas. The game is slated to begin at 1:30 p.m. at O'Shaughnessy Stadium and admission is free. More information will be forthcoming on the Spring Game.
Over the past couple weeks and in the time leading up to spring practice, GopherSports.com has been bringing you Q&A articles with future Gophers. Here's a look at the interviews we've featured so far: Michael Carter; Dan Orseske; Kerry Lewis; Kendall Gregory-McGhee. Come back to GopherSports.com throughout the next couple weeks for more in-depth interviews with these future Gophers.
