LOUISVILLE, Ky. The University of Minnesota softball team dropped its finale at the Courtyard by Marriott Cardinal Tournament, losing to Illinois-Chicago by a score of 11-0.

The Golden Gophers, playing their fifth game in three days, fell to 14-17 on the season, while UIC improved its record to 5-17. Minnesota finished with a record of 1-4 over the weekend, losing a pair of games in extra innings, including a 3-2 setback versus #17 Louisville.

Minnesota was held hitless by Flames pitcher Whitney Orellana, who struck out eight and walked just one to improve to 2-1 on the season.

"We just didn’t execute when we had our chances," Minnesota co-head coach Lisa Bernstein said. "But we’re a team that sticks together, and we’ll regroup, go through a tough practice tomorrow (Monday), and prepare for our doubleheader at IUPUI on Tuesday."

Freshman pitcher Alissa Koch started for the Gophers, allowing 15 hits and 11 earned runs in five innings of work to fall to 0-7 on the year. Koch struck out a pair of batters, but surrendered six extra-base hits against the Flames.

Minnesota’s twinbill against IUPUI on Tuesday is set to start at 1:00 p.m. CT.
