Lamoureux and Marvin Named Patty Kaz Finalists

USA Hockey announced that Minnesota’s Monique Lamoureux (Grand Forks, N.D.) and Gigi Marvin (Warroad, Minn.) are two of the top-10 finalists for the 2009 Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award. The award, given to the top player in women’s college hockey, will then announce the top three on March 10. The 2009 Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award, which takes place in conjunction with the NCAA Women's Frozen Four, will be presented at a brunch ceremony on Sat., March 21, at the Royal Sonesta Hotel Boston at 10 a.m. EST.
Lamoureux and Marvin are two of five honorees from the Western Collegiate Hockey Association. Wisconsin holds the most finalists with three in Hilary Knight, Erika Lawler and Jessie Vetter. Also named as finalists are Mercyhurst’s Meghan Agosta, Cornell’s Rebecca Johnston, Boston College’s Molly Schaus, Harvard’s Sarah Vaillancourt and New Hampshire’s Jenn Wakefield. Lamoureux is the only freshman finalist, while three are sophomores (Johnston, Knight, Wakefield), two are juniors (Agosta and Schaus) and four are seniors (Lawler, Marvin, Vaillancourt and Vetter).
The WCHA Scoring Champion, freshman forward Monique Lamoureux has 71 points in 36 games played. Lamoureux ranks third in the nation in points per game (1.97), fourth in goals per game (1.00) and tied for fifth in assists per game. (0.97). Leading the team in points and goals (36), Lamoureux led the WCHA in all three scoring categories, tallying 61 of her 71 points against conference teams. Of her 36 games played, Lamoureux has established a team-high 20 multiple-point games and eight multiple-goal games. During her rookie campaign, Lamoureux has scored in 31 of the Gophers’ 36 games and has 38 points in the second half of the season. Lamoureux is the first Minnesota player since 2005 to have over 60 points in a single season, ranking sixth in school history for points in a year.
The 2009 season marks the second straight year Marvin has been named a top-10 Patty Kazmaier finalist. In 34 games played, the senior forward has scored 25 goals and 24 assists for 49 points, ranking third on the team. A 2008 All-American, Marvin ranks sixth in school history with 187 points. Ranking 17th in the nation in points per game (1.44), Marvin was a three-time WCHA Offensive Player of the Week this year. A co-captain with Melanie Gagnon, Marvin tied for fourth in the conference in goals scored (20) and eighth in conference action in points scored (34). A member of 2008 gold medal U.S. National Team, Marvin also competed at the Four Nation’s Cup with Team USA. A great student as well as athlete, Marvin is a three-time WCHA Scholar Athlete and will graduate this May with a degree in communications.
