Senior defenseman Melanie Gagnon and freshman forward Monique Lamoureux were named RBK Second Team All-Americans, announced by the American Hockey Coaches' Association. The announcement came during the NCAA Frozen Four held in Boston, Mass. It is the first honor for both recipients and the second-straight year a Golden Gopher has garnered All-America honors as Gigi Marvin was a second-team selection last year. Gagnon and Lamoureux mark the 11th and 12th All-Americans in Gopher women's hockey history.
In her senior year, Gagnon served as a Gopher co-captain and was the Gophers' top defenseman throughout the year. Named the WCHA Defensive Player of the Year and All-WCHA First Team selection, Gagnon was a Patty Kazmaier nominee and led the blue liners with 29 points. A member of the Gopher power play and penalty kill units, Gagnon has 12 of 29 points with the extra attacker, including all four goals on the power play. Gagnon ranked second in the WCHA and ninth nationally in points by a defenseman, averaging 0.72 points per game. During her senior year, she had nine multiple-point games, including seven multiple-assist games. She held her best plus/minus rating of her career at a +34 and finished her career with a +73. Her 81 career points ranks fourth in school history in points by a defenseman and produced her best point-production of her career this year. She was also named to the WCHA All-Tournament Team and was a member of the All-WCHA Academic Team.
Lamoureux was the only freshman as a Patty Kazmaier top-10 finalist. Named to the First-Team All-WCHA, she was also the WCHA Rookie of the Year and a WCHA All-Rookie Team honoree. Lamoureux was the first Minnesota player since 2005 to have over 60 points in a single season, leading the team with 39 goals and 36 assists for 75 points. The WCHA scoring champion with 61 points in conference play, she led every scoring category in points (61), goals (30), assists (31). Nationally, she ranked fifth in the nation in points per game (1.88), fourth in goals per game (0.97) and 11th in assists per game (0.90). Of her 39 goals, five of her goals were on the power play, five short-handed, eight game-winning goals and seven first goals. She was named the WCHA Offensive Player of the Week twice and the WCHA Rookie of the Week four times, a conference high. Throughout the course of the year, Lamoureux scored in 34 of the Gophers’ 40 games and had 42 points in the second half of the season. Her team was 30-2-3 when she scored a point and 25-1-2 when scored a goal. She led the team with 21 multiple-point games and ranked sixth in school history for points in a season (75).
