Three University of Minnesota football recruits have experienced a great deal of basketball success on the basketball hardwood in the last few days. Two of them won state championships.

Washburn High School’s Ra’Shede Hageman led Minneapolis Washburn High School to a 58-45 win over Mankato West Saturday afternoon. Hageman tallied a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds in the Class 3A State Championship game at the Target Center.

Hageman scored in double figures in all three of Washburn’s state tournament games. He tallied 12 points and nine boards in a 91-66 semifinal victory over St. Paul Johnson. He went for 18 points and pulled down eight rebounds in a 72-60 quarterfinal win over Grand Rapids. The Millers finished their season 26-5.

Meanwhile, Bryant Allen led his Maplewood-Richmond Heights High School team to a Missouri Class 3 state title last week. Allen scored 15 points, grabbed three rebounds and had three steals in his team’s 73-55 championship victory over Whitfield at Mizzou Arena in Columbia, Mo. Allen was outstanding in the semifinals, leading Maplewood-Richmond Heights to the title game. He scored 24 points, grabbed eight boards and tallied three steals in the squad’s semifinal win. Maplewood-Richmond Heights finished its season with a 30-3 mark.

Another Gopher football recruit, Moses Alipate, advanced to the semifinals with his Bloomington Jefferson High School teammates in the Minnesota Class 4A Tournament. Alipate scored 12 points in a quarterfinal win over Henry Sibley High School. He led the Jaguars with 17 points in a semifinal loss to Osseo. Alipate scored a team-high 13 in the third-place game, a 59-55 loss to St. Cloud Tech. Jefferson finished its season 20-8.

Hageman is a tight end on the gridiron, while Allen is slotted to play wide receiver and Alipate is a quarterback. All three will join the Gophers this summer for preseason camp and will be freshmen on Minnesota’s 2009 roster.
