The University of Minnesota will host Boston College next Saturday at 4 p.m. for a one-game, NCAA quarterfinal, announced today at 5 p.m. The Golden Gophers enter the tournament as the No. 2 seed after falling to No. 1 seed Wisconsin this afternoon in the WCHA tournament championship game. Winners of the quarterfinal game will advance to the NCAA Frozen Four, March 20 & 22 in Boston, Mass. This is the second-straight year the Gophers have hosted an NCAA quarterfinal game and the fifth time since the start of the eight-field tournament in 2005. Minnesota fell to Wisconsin last year, defeated Princeton in 2006 and Providence in 2005, all of which were played at Ridder Arena.
The NCAA game marks the second time in two straight years that the Eagles have visited Ridder Arena. Last year, BC and the Gophers tied, 2-2, in their first meeting (Jan. 12), followed by a 2-1 Gopher win on Jan. 13. Minnesota/BC will be the last game played next weekend as all games will be played earlier on March 14. Wisconsin will host ECAC champion, Dartmouth, and will compete at 1 p.m. (CT) at the Kohl Center. On the east coast, Hockey East champion, New Hampshire, will host Minnesota Duluth, 1 p.m. (ET), at the Whittemore Center. No. 3 seed Mercyhurst hosts St. Lawrence at 3 p.m. (ET) at the Mercyhurst Ice Center.
Tickets for the NCAA quarterfinal will go on sale Monday at 9 a.m. through the Gopher Ticket Office. Adult reserved tickets are $10, followed by general admission is $8 and youth tickets are $5. Fans can purchase tickets by calling 1-800-UGOPHER (or locally at 612-624-8080) as well as purchasing through the U of M website, gophersports.com.
