Minnesota pole vaulter Alicia Rue was recognized for the fourth time in 2009 as the Big Ten Field Event Athlete of the Week. Rue, a junior from Plymouth, Minn., earned this week’s accolade after winning the pole vault title at the Sun Angel Classic last weekend in Tempe, Ariz. The Gopher All-American cleared a season-best and NCAA regional qualifying height of 13 feet, 9 1/4 inches, currently the top leap in the Big Ten and seventh best in the NCAA this season.

Minnesota is ranked No. 15 in this week’s U.S. Track & Field/Cross Country Coaches (USTFCCCA) National Poll. The Gophers have earned seven Big Ten Athlete of the Week awards this season.
