Gopher Softball to Play Doubleheader Today
4/18/2009 12:00:00 AM | Softball
A fun time is planned at Jane Sage Cowles Stadium today, when the Golden Gophers play host to Penn State for a Big Ten doubleheader. It's Student Day, and there will be a raffle for students, with prizes including food coupons to various vendors, as well as gift cards for both Target and the U of M Bookstore.
Minnesota (21-24, 4-6 Big Ten) is tied with the Nittany Lions (15-19, 4-6) in the Big Ten standings, and the Gophers received 15 votes in this week's USA Today/NFCA Top 25 poll after defeating #6 Northwestern and taking #8 Michigan to extra innings last week,
Minnesota has been riding the right arm of standout senior pitcher Briana Hassett, who ranks second in NCAA Division I softball with a school-record total of 336 strikeouts this season. Hassett's total currently ranks seventh in Big Ten history.
In addition to the special events taking place today, fans attending the games will have the chance to participate in several regular in-game promotions -- Subway Trivia, Pocket Litter, and Strech and Catch -- to add to the fun. Tickets are $8 for adults, $5 for youths/seniors, and $4 for groups of 15 or more, and all University of Minnesota students with a valid ID are admitted free. Fans unable to attend in person can follow the games' progress via the Live Stats link.
First pitch is slated for 1:00 p.m. (CDT), so come on out and support the Golden Gophers!
