Three Golden Gopher women’s basketball players Katie Ohm, Ashley Ellis-Milan and Emily Fox - will receive their diploma in graduation ceremonies on the University of Minnesota campus this week. Ohm and Ellis-Milan will return pursue master’s degrees next year as they play their fifth seasons in the Gopher program. Fox was a 2009 WNBA draft pick of the Minnesota Lynx after completing a successful Minnesota career last season.
Ohm, a native of Elgin, Minn., will receive her bachelor’s degree in kinesiology, while St. Paul native Ellis-Milan has earned her bachelor’s degree in elementary education. Ohm and Ellis-Milan will participate in the College of Education and Human Development graduation ceremony at Northrop Auditorium this evening.
Fox, from Highlands Ranch, Colo., earned her bachelor’s degree in journalism and will receive her diploma at the College of Liberal Arts in Northrop Auditorium on Sunday.
Academic success has been a mainstay of the Golden Gopher program under Pam Borton. The Gophers have combined to earn over a 3.0 grade point average in every semester since Borton took over the helm seven years ago. Minnesota has also graduated 16 of 18 players who have exhausted their eligibility during that span. Senior Kay Sylva will improve that average even further when she graduates in December of 2009.
