Future Gopher Q&A: Brent Singleton

Throughout the winter and spring, GopherSports.com has been bringing you exclusive interviews with future Gophers who signed letters of intent earlier this year. Next up is linebacker Brent Singleton. GopherSports.com caught up with the standout from American Heritage High in Plantation, Fla. to get his thoughts on TCF Bank Stadium, heading north to play his college ball and his goals for the future. Singleton spoke to GopherSports.com last week. Here’s a transcript of that interview:
GopherSports.com: Talk about the recruiting process and what made you decide to come to Minnesota?
Brent Singleton: I felt very comfortable with the coaching staff. It felt like home.
GopherSports.com: Is there anyone you like to emulate or pattern your game after?
Brent Singleton: Jon Beason. I like that he is a Florida kid and I have known him since I was growing up. He plays with a lot of speed and he is aggressive on the field.
GopherSports.com: What are your thoughts on TCF Bank Stadium?
Brent Singleton: I haven’t seen it in person yet, but it looks like it is going to turn out nice.
GopherSports.com: Do you realize you’ll be part of the first class to play your entire Minnesota career at the new stadium?
Brent Singleton: It is a great opportunity. I know that the coaching staff is going to be there for a little while.
GopherSports.com: Talk about playing in the 2008 NIKE South Florida All-Star Game?
Brent Singleton: It was fun. It was really a great experience, especially meeting players from all around the county. Those guys could be lifetime friends.
GopherSports.com: What are your most memorable moments from high school football?
Brent Singleton: One game I scored four touchdowns; one on defense and three on offense. The game was against Benjamin.
GopherSports.com: What are your goals for your first season with the Gophers?
Brent Singleton: My first goal is to be a starter. My second goal is to get First Team All-Big Ten.
GopherSports.com: What are your long-term goals for your college career?
Brent Singleton: Being able to enter the NFL Draft my senior year and be a top prospect and a First or Second Round pick.
GopherSports.com: What have you been up to since Signing Day?
Brent Singleton: I have just been training and that’s about it.
GopherSports.com: What’s your favorite thing to do if you have a day to yourself to do anything you want?
Brent Singleton: My perfect day would be hanging out with my family and my girlfriend.
GopherSports.com: What music are you listening to most right now?
Brent Singleton: “Lets go get them” by MGT.
GopherSports.com: Favorite movie or movies ever?
Brent Singleton: I am a comedy guy. My favorite movies are “Baby Boy” and I like “Kings of Comedy.”
GopherSports.com: Favorite type of food? If you had to choose your favorite meal, what would it be?
Brent Singleton: Steak and Chicken. My favorite meal would be Steak, potatoes and a strawberry smoothie.
GopherSports.com: What’s can’t miss TV for you?
Brent Singleton: I don’t really watch a lot of TV. But I do watch the NFL Network.
GopherSports.com: What are you looking forward to most when you arrive on campus this summer?
Brent Singleton: Just working out hard and getting a spot.
GopherSports.com: If you could hang out with anyone for the day who would it be?
Brent Singleton: My girlfriend. We would probably go to the beach.
GopherSports.com: What will be the biggest differences moving from Florida to Minnesota?
Brent Singleton: The weather and that’s about it. People are also friendlier up there in Minnesota.
