Phil Steele has released his 2009 Preseason All-Big Ten and All-America Teams. Ten Minnesota football players were recognized on Steele’s Preseason All-Big Ten Team, while wide receiver Eric Decker also earned Second-Team All-America accolades.

Along with the All-America recognition, Decker was Minnesota’s lone First-Team All-Big Ten selection on Steele’s list. Big Ten second-teamers were cornerback Traye Simmons and incoming wide receiver Hayo Carpenter.

Steele listed incoming offensive lineman Jeff Wills as a third-team choice, as well as kick returner Troy Stoudermire. Defensive tackle Garrett Brown, linebacker Lee Campbell and cornerback Marcus Sherels were third-team selections on the defensive side of the ball. Steele chose quarterback Adam Weber and offensive lineman Matt Carufel as fourth-teamers, while also giving Sherels a nod on the fourth team as a punt returner.

A full list of Steele’s All-Conference and All-America teams may be found on his website www.PhilSteele.com.

The Golden Gophers are set to open preseason camp August 10. Minnesota opens its 2009 campaign Sept. 5, when the Gophers travel to Syracuse for a matchup with the Orange.
