Camp Blog: Ramping Up

Thursday’s Golden Gopher practice was a boisterous one at the Gibson-Nagurski Complex. Some of that rowdy activity may have been excitement over the fact that the Gophers will be in full pads with some live work ahead of them on Friday.
“We’ve had a good first four practices,” head coach Tim Brewster said after the two-hour workout. “There will be a little added excitement tomorrow. We’ll have some live scrimmage stuff and we’ll finish the practice with a goal-line drill, which always creates some good excitement.”
See more of Coach Brewster’s comments on Thursday and looking ahead to Friday in the video below.
The weather was very warm at the beginning of Thursday’s practice. What may have been among the highlights for the student-athletes was a popsicle break in the middle of the practice. Numerous players were heard thanking Coach Brewster for the popsicles, which put smiles on the faces of a bunch of sweaty Gophers.
More smiles probably broke out when a cool front moved through Minneapolis and the temperatures cooled considerably. Fortunately, practice was spared the rain that came down east of the Twin Cities, giving a view of the rainbow we used at the beginning the video below.
We’re going to dive right back into the mailbag again tonight. The more interactive we can get with this blog, the more fun it is for me. Hopefully it makes it more fun for you readers, as well. We’re certainly getting a lot of positive feedback. So, keep those questions and comments coming.
Scott from Parts Unknown asked the following: I know Adam Weber is fully entrenched as the Gophers’ full-time quarterback, but is there any chance Coach Brewster will put MarQueis Gray in for certain plays/situations for his athletic ability (a la Tim Tebow in 2006)?
The short answer is yes. MarQueis Gray will be on the field in many situations in 2009. For a more detailed answer, check out offensive coordinator Jedd Fisch’s take on MarQueis in the video below.
Our second question tonight was asked by James, also from Parts Unknown. James wanted to know about Troy Stoudermire and his role in the offense. James also mentioned that he was very impressed with Stoudermire in the Spring Game. Coach Brewster actually touched on Stoudermire’s role after Wednesday’s practice, so we’ve got his answer in the video below, as well.
As mentioned above, Friday will be the first practice in full pads. We’ll bring you a full report tomorrow evening.
