University of Minnesota linebacker Nate Triplett has received numerous honors for his impressive performance Saturday night at TCF Bank Stadium vs. the Air Force Academy.
Triplett was named Big Ten Co-Defensive Player of the Week, Walter Camp Football Foundation National Defensive Player of the Week and is a nominee for AT&T All-America Player of the Week.
Triplett recorded a career-high 17 tackles and also returned a fumble 52 yards for a touchdown to break a tie in the fourth quarter and give the Gophers a victory in their first game at TCF Bank Stadium. The senior linebacker’s 17 tackles mark the best single-game performance in the Big Ten this season and are also the most by a Minnesota player since 2002.
Just a week after Air Force scored 72 points, Triplett helped the Gophers defense hold the Falcons to only 13 points in Minneapolis. With the game tied at 3-3 in the third quarter, the Minnesota native stopped an Air Force running back on fourth-and-one at the nine-yard line to give the ball back to the Gophers. Then with the game tied at 10-10 in the final stanza, Triplett picked up a fumble and rambled 52 yards to put his team ahead for good. He nabs his first career Big Ten weekly accolade and the second straight for a Minnesota linebacker after Lee Campbell was honored following the opening weekend.
