Gophers Ready to Compete In All-Star Action

Gopher goalie Alyssa Grogan, defenseman Anne Schleper and forward Emily West will compete with the WCHA All-Stars Friday, as they take on the U.S. National Team at the Xcel Energy Center at 7 p.m. The WCHA All-Stars, along with coaches Jeff Giesen (SCSU), Maria Lewis (UND) and Heather Farrell (BSU) practiced at Ridder Arena today at 9:30 a.m. and followed with a 1:30 p.m. practice before competing against Team USA. Listed below is the entire WCHA Team:

Notes: The last time the WCHA All-Star Team was in effect dates back to the 2005-06 and the 2006 Winter Olympic run. On Oct. 1, 2005, Team USA defeated the WCHA All-Stars, 5-1. Natalie Darwitz had two goals in the game. Also competing with USA was Kelly Stephens, Lyndsay Wall and Krissy Wendell. 

The WCHA also announced the preseason coaches' poll, with Minnesota finishing second. NCAA defending champions, Wisconsin, earned the most first-place votes (6), while Minnesota followed with two and Minnesota Duluth rounded out the top three.

Minnesota will hold its annual media day on Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. Gophersports.com will show the press conference in its entirty following the event.
