Minnesota Opens Big Ten Play Against Wisconsin

The Minnesota volleyball team (9-3) will open Big Ten play at the Sports Pavilion against Wisconsin (5-5, 0-1) on Friday, Sept. 25 at 7 p.m. The Golden Gophers will also face Iowa on Saturday, Sept. 26 at 7 p.m.

Minnesota enters Big Ten play ranked No. 9 in the nation, and has a 9-3 overall record. The Golden Gophers have faced five ranked teams in their 12 matches this year. Minnesota is led by junior Lauren Gibbemeyer who is hitting .430 (121-19-237) with 2.88 kps and 1.55 blps. Junior outside hitter Brook Dieter leads the team with 3.95 kps, has 2.31 dps and 0.60 blps. Senior setter Taylor Carico has 9.20 aps, 2.46 dps and 0.74 blps, while senior libero Christine Tan has 3.93 dps and 0.28 aps.
Wisconsin is 5-5 on the season and 0-1 in Big Ten play. The Badgers dropped their first conference contest of the season to Iowa in four sets at home on Sept. 23. Wisconsin is led by Brittney Dolgner who has 3.31 kps and 2.84 dps, while Kasey Maloney leads the team in blocks with 0.93 blps and has 1.48 kps. Setter Janelle Gabrielsen has 9.29 aps and 2.32 dps, while Kim Kuzma leads the team with 3.76 dps.
Iowa enters the week with a 9-4 overall record and is a 1-0 in Big Ten play. The Hawkeyes are led by Megan Schipper who is averaging 3.52 kps and 3.28 dps, while Becky Walters leads the team with 1.32 blps and has 2.29 kps. Setter Mara Hilgenberg has 10.20 aps and 2.22 dps on the season, while Christina Meister leads the team with 4.72 dps.
Minnesota is 10-3 in Big Ten home openers under Mike Hebert, and has won 10 conference home openers in a row dating back to the 1999.
