Minnesota Ranked No. 9 in AVCA Poll

The Minnesota volleyball team (6-1) was ranked No. 9 in the AVCA poll for the week of Monday, Sept. 7. The Golden Gophers collected 1,007 points in the poll.
It is the Golden Gophers' highest ranking and most points since Sept. 15, 2008 when they were ranked No. 8 in the nation. Minnesota has now been ranked in the top 25 for the last 19 weeks.
This past week, Minnesota went 5-0, won the Diet Coke Classic and claimed victories over George Mason and Navy. The Golden Gophers defeated Auburn (3-0), George Washington (3-0) and No. 12 Iowa State (3-1) in the Diet Coke Classic. With the win over the Cyclones, Minnesota moved to 2-1 against ranked opposition this season.
Minnesota was joined by four other Big Ten schools in the top 25. Penn State was ranked No. 1, Michigan moved to No. 7, Illinois was No. 14 and Michigan State was No. 18. It marked the second week in a row that Big Ten had three teams in the top 10.
