ON THE DOCKET
Following the BSU series, Minnesota hosts North Dakota (Jan. 22-23), Minnesota State (Jan. 29-30), at Minnesota Duluth (Feb. 5-6), a home-and-home series against St. Cloud State (Feb. 12-13) and a regular season finale against border rival Wisconsin (Feb. 19-20). Playoff action begins the following weekend with the first round of the WCHA playoffs (Feb. 26-28).
QUICK TURNAROUND
Minnesota will have its quickest turnaround from a game this weekend as the Gophers faced the U.S. National Team on Tuesday. Minnesota will play five games within a span of a week, including going on two days rest since it’s last game.
GOOD TO HAVE YA BACK
The Gophers welcome back freshmen Noora Räty and Mira Jalosuo to the Minnesota squad. The duo missed last weekend’s series against Ohio State and returned to the team on Monday. They competed with the Finnish National Team at the MLP Cup in Germany.
ABOUT THE BEAVERS
Bemidji State enters the weekend with a 7-11-4 overall record and a 6-6-4 record within the WCHA. Like Minnesota, the Beavers have seen one series since the start of the second half. BSU and Minnesota State tied, 2-2 (MSU won the shootout), while winning 3-0 the next day. The Beavers rank fourth in the WCHA and hold 19 conference points. Leading the team in points is junior Erin Cody with 20, while Erin Johnson is second (15) and Annie Bauerfeld rounds out the top three with 14 points. Arguably the strongest position for BSU is in goal with Zuzana Tomcikova. In 18 games played, Tomcikova holds a .937 save percentage and a 2.09 goals against average. She was named to the All-WCHA Second Team as a freshman last year.
THE LAST TIME THEY MET
Minnesota earned a series sweep over BSU on Nov. 20-21 at Ridder Arena. The Gophers posted 4-2 and 3-1 wins over the Beavers for four points in the standings. Megan Bozek tallied four points, while Terra Rasmussen and Kelli Blankenship each had three points.
