Ferrazzi Helps Gophers Elude Wichita State

Alessandra Ferrazzi posted wins in singles and doubles as Minnesota held off Wichita State for a 4-3 non-conference women's tennis victory on Saturday in Lincoln, Neb.
The Gophers swept all three doubles matches and held a 4-0 lead before Wichita State won the final three matches, including a pair of match tiebreaker wins. Minnesota, ranked 64th in the country, is now 3-1 overall and takes on 56th-ranked Nebraska on Sunday. The Cornhuskers also beat Wichita State 4-3 on Friday.
Doron Muravnik and Mariana Spilca opened with an 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles before Ferrazzi and Palen rallied for a 9-7 win at No. 1. The duo trailed Lutfiana Budiharto and Stephanie Dalmacio 7-3 and won the last six games of the match. Tijana Koprivica and Jackie Sperling finished off the Gophers' doubles sweep with a 7-4 win in a tiebreaker at No. 2.
Magdalena Wiecha coasted past Iasmine Carpen 6-0, 6-1 at No. 5 and Ferrazzi followed with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Delia Damaschin at No. 2 for a 3-0 Gophers' lead. Peta Forsyth clinched Minnesota's victory with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Lily Wakim at No. 6.
Lenore Lazaroiu picked up the Shockers' first win with a 6-4, 6-3 decision over Minnesota's Alexa Palen at No. 3. Wichita State then claimed a pair of match tiebreakers as Florentina Hanisch held off Jackie Sperling 6-4, 3-6, 10-1 at No. 4 and Dalmacio edged Koprivica 3-6, 7-6, 10-8 at No. 1.
