Play Concludes At Wildcat Invitational

A day after winning the top two doubles flights at the Wildcat Invitational, members of the women's tennis team completed play in singles competition. The three-day event, which was held at the Vandy Christie Tennis Center in Evanston, Ill., concluded on Sunday and featured competitors from Minnesota, host Northwestern, Akron, DePaul, Illinois-Chicago, Iowa, LSU, Michigan State, Oklahoma, South Carolina and Wisconsin.

Senior Alessandra Ferrazzi, who partnered with Alex Palen to win the top flight in doubles on Saturday, went 3-1 in singles play. She lost her first round match in the top flight, but then won her next three. She beat Hannah Berner of Wisconsin 6-3, 6-2 in the consolation final.

Freshman Natallia Pintusava, who teamed up with Magdalena Wiecha to win the second flight doubles championship on Saturday, turned in a 2-2 record in the top singles flight. She won her first two matches before falling to eventual flight winner Anya Morgina of South Carolina 6-4, 6-2 in the semifinals. She then dropped a consolation match 6-0, 4-6, 6-0 to Morgina's teammate Dijana Stojic.

Palen was 3-1 in singles play, winning her first two matches before losing a semifinal contest. She then won a consolation match. Wiecha and Peta Forsyth both were both 2-2 in singles, while Emilie Renault and Mariana Spilca were 1-3. Elianna Kantar was 0-4 in singles.    

The team returns to action at the Oct. 21-25 ITA Regional Tournament in Fayetteville, Ark.
