University of Minnesota head women's basketball coach Pam Borton announced today that associate head coach Barb Smith has resigned her position with the Gophers to pursue other professional opportunities.

"We were very fortunate to have Barb's experience, passion and knowledge at Minnesota," Borton said. "I appreciate everything she has done for Minnesota basketball. She has been an asset to the program in her six years here and we are sad to see her go, but wish her the best in her very bright future. I wish her nothing but the best."

Smith joined the Minnesota women's basketball staff prior to the 2004-05 season and recently completed her sixth campaign with the Gophers.

During her tenure, Smith helped coach the Gophers to four NCAA Tournament appearances, including a berth in the 2005 Sweet 16.
